CIMIC Group Chief Executive Officer Michael Wright (2nd L) and representatives from CIMIC, CPB Contractors, UGL and Pacific Partnerships recently attended the annual NSW Major Projects Symposium, gaining insights into infrastructure policy and procurement. The event held by Infrastructure Partnerships Australia (IPA), allows government policy and project leaders to brief the sector on the project pipeline, outlook, and key drivers for major projects and related policy reform in NSW. Michael Wright spoke at the event following NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian’s opening address on the NSW Infrastructure programme. Michael highlighted CIMIC Group’s long and proud history of delivering major projects in NSW, and reiterated the Group’s support for the Ten Point Commitment to the Construction Sector Action Plan proposed last year by government.

Heidi spoke with teams about CIMIC Group’s commitment to social inclusion and the wellbeing of all our people. Heidi also carried out an assessment of our Philippines operations – part of due diligence activities we undertake across the Group to assess and address any risks of modern slavery in our operations and supply chain.
Mischa Traynor, Thiess’ General Manager Innovation and Technology spoke to the topic ‘Using data science for operational gains’ at one of Australia’s largest mining and resources events last month. Mischa introduced Thiess’ Plant Conditioning Reporting Solution and explained how it was helping to inform and drive operational gains in fleet availability.
Congratulations to Pedro Sanhueza Soto, Thiess’ Graduate Mining Engineer (pictured centre). Pedro recently won the prestigious Juan Brüggen award which recognises the academic achievement of a mining engineering student from the University of Chile. This award is presented by the Mining Engineers Institute, Chile.
Each year in November, Thiess and Sedgman stop to acknowledge and encourage conversations around the serious issue of family and domestic violence. This year they hosted a panel discussion hearing from leaders and industry experts about the importance of action and education. EIC Activities’ Geoff Sewell, Managing Director and Julie Martin, General Manager recently caught up with the Brisbane office team, demonstrating to employees how easy it is to share photos and updates through EIC Activities’ business network platform, Yammer.
CPB Contractors and Aboriginal organisation Diz Footprints are offering young Indigenous people, in the Campbelltown area the opportunity to apply for a traineeship in construction at the Campbelltown Hospital Redevelopment. Five cohorts will begin their traineeships in 2020 with recruitment happening over the next seven weeks. Chris Skeggs, NSW Health Infrastructure Project Director, and Julia Mrkonja, Director of Redevelopment, Campbelltown Hospital, South Western Sydney Local Health District, have both congratulated CPB Contractors and Diz Footprints on the success of the program that was piloted at CPB Contractors’ Nepean Hospital Redevelopment in 2018.

Congratulations to Sacha Comollatti awarded ‘Trainee of the Year’ and Sherren Ryan awarded ‘Trainee of the Year runner up.’
Welcome to Thiess' new cohort, part of the Sisters in Mining program. The program aims to maximise employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in Queensland and beyond.
Thiess’ team in Mongolia recently delivered CIMIC’s One Frontline Leadership program to 15 emerging leaders. The two-day workshop focused on reinforcing the critical skills and knowledge required to be an effective leader. Emerging leaders learned about open communication, behavioural styles, delegating tasks, how to give and receive feedback and guiding your team through stages of professional development.

A visual artist also drew key themes from the discussion which is currently displayed in reception at the Brisbane office to continue the conversation.
Thiess’ Allies based in Santiago Chile recently held an event to learn more about LGBTIQA+ inclusion and their inclusion activity plans for 2020. Allies aims to connect employees who identify as part of the LGBTIQA+ community and is open to anyone at Thiess who wishes to support their colleagues and learn more about the community.
Thiess hosted a training session with the team at the Darra Component Rebuild Centre, learning how to become a more accessible workplace for people with disabilities. This was part of a pilot program at Thiess who will also be reviewing accessibility more broadly in 2020 across their global regions.
Meilyn Tan, Thiess Communications Manager in Indonesia recently presented at the Women in Mining and Energy Summit in Jakarta. Meilyn spoke about how Thiess is taking big steps towards achieving gender equity, and showcased maternity wear PPE which includes shirts, pants and protective hijabs.
